National Museum of African Art and Culture

Washington D.C. (2009)

Museoplan was asked to join Diller Scofidio + Renfro to consult on gallery planning and design as well as all museological services in the invited competition of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, the last major museum to be built by the Smithsonian on the National Mall. One of six teams invited to compete, DS+R and Museoplan developed a highly sculptural volume around three distinct yet intertwined gallery sequences that let the visitor choose between fully curated narratives and individual routes of exploration through the dense collection of historical and cultural artifacts.
